UniGR-CIRKLA on SR Kultur
Prof. Dr. Markus Schäfer from the University of Luxembourg, who works on the recycling of concrete and composite materials within the UniGR-CIRKLA project, was a guest at SR Kultur - Saarländischer Rundfunk.
As part of the themed week“AufbruchStattAbbruch“ he spoke about sustainability in construction and the challenges of developing circular approaches to construction and demolition in the Greater Region and beyond.
The conversation focused on the “3Rs” framework:
➤ Reduce – use fewer materials
➤ Reuse – keep building components in use instead of discarding them
➤ Recycle – return materials into circulation
💡 The discussion also highlighted concrete recycling, from recycled concrete (R-concrete made from demolition waste) to the selective dismantling and direct reuse of concrete elements. These examples underline that sustainable construction is not only a technical challenge, but also raises important legal and societal questions.
