The CIRKLA Certificate at the Université de Lorraine

The UniGR CIRKLA initiative of the Université de Lorraine and its partner institutions offers exciting new learning opportunities for students of the University of the Greater Region (UniGR), especially those interested in circular economy, mineral resource management and metal recycling in the context of the energy and digital transitions.

As part of this initiative, the University of Lorraine offers two courses in English, open to UniGR students. These courses grant ECTS credits and contribute to a “CIRKLA Certificate” delivered by the University of Lorraine.

Course Modalities

SPICE MP: Sustainable Process in the Circular Economy from Raw
Materials to Production
Principle of circular economy integrating geopolitical, societal, regulatory, and technological aspects. 5 Online Quizz/exercises integrated into the e-learning programme
Metal Recycling Description of the unit operations integrated into recycling processes. 3 In-Person Written exam

By participating in these courses, students of UniGR can strenghten their understanding of critical topics such as mineral resource management, value chains, recycling, and circular economy, which arecentral issues for the sustainability of Europe and beyond.

These courses also fit into the broader context of resource management and circularity promoted by UniGR-CIRKLA: the project aims to position the Greater Region as a European model for efficient management of critical raw materials, from extraction (or “primary resources”) to recycling and reuse (secondary resources), closing material loops and reducing waste.
